KMB and LWB Provide Self-produced 3-layer Surgical Masks to Staff
To further protect the health of staff members, from 1 June KMB and LWB provide self-produced 3-layer surgical masks to front line and back office employees. The first batch caters to the needs of employees, including bus captains, terminus supervisors, outdoor staff and office staff. All employees are expected to receive 1-2 masks on each working day based on the actual situation and need.
Self-produced Masks Provide a Safe Working Environment for Staff
KMB and LWB serve the community around the clock. The companies are providing the employees with self-produced 3-layer surgical masks to ensure they have sufficient protection. The Melt-blown Polypropylene (MBPP) used in the filter layer of the mask has been certificated by a third party organisation. With a Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE) and Particle Filtration Efficiency (PFE) rate of 95% or above, the mask can block fluids and bacteria effectively.
Self-sufficient and Fully Automatic Mask Production Line
Transport International Holdings Limited, KMB and LWB’s parent company, has set up a local mask production line in Tuen Mun. The mask production line comprises a Mask Making Machine, an Ear-Loop Sealing Machine and an Anti-bacteria Packaging Machine, so that the whole process of mask making – cutting, hemming and ear-loop sealing – is fully automatic. After the raw material supply and production scale are stabilised, KMB and LWB plan to offer a helping hand to retirees and the needy.
Setting up Class 100,000 Cleanroom
The mask production line is set up in a cleanroom that complies with ISO Class 8 under ISO 14644-1, equivalent to Class 100,000 air cleanliness standard, which means the concentration of particles larger than or equal to 0.5 micrometres in every cubic feet of air should be below 100,000, and the frequency of ventilation should be 15 to 19 times per hour. The cleanroom has received the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) Certification. The cleanroom is equipped with special ventilating systems and purifiers, which operate 24 hours a day to filter particles and bacteria in the air. The high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters can remove 99.99% of particles as small as 0.3 micrometres in size. The positive pressure cleanroom maintains a pressure level that is higher than the pressure outside, thus keeping contaminants out of the room. To fulfill the requirements of cleanliness standards, the ceiling and walls of the cleanroom are covered by a rockwool-filled sandwich panel, while the floor is coated with a self-levelling, dust-free epoxy resin to minimise dust accumulation.
