The Secretary for the Environment and the Secretary for Transport and Housing to visit KMB depot

Mr. Wong Kam-sing, the Secretary for the Environment and Mr. Chan Fan, the Secretary for Transport and Housing today (June 11), with a delegation group of government officials, visited the Kowloon Bay Depot of The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited (“KMB”) to learn about KMB’s operations and its latest development of using new energy.

Mr. Tsang Wai Hung, KMB Independent Non-executive Director cum Convenor of Task Force on Smart Initiatives in Transport, Mr. Lee Luen Fai, KMB Non-executive Director, Mr. Lee Chak Cheong, KMB Managing Director, along with the senior management introduce the depot facilities and daily operations to the government officials, including bus safety measures, staff rest area, electric buses, and charging facilities. KMB also illustrated its development blueprint for new energy and electric buses.

KMB and LWB attach great importance to sustainability and pursue the government policy of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. KMB will complete the installation of over 22,000 solar panels by the end of 2021 and introduce 42 double-deck electric buses. The new double-deck electric buses are expected to be put into service in the second half of next year. KMB plans to introduce 500 electric buses by 2025, accounting for one-eighth of the whole bus fleet. In the long run, KMB hopes that new-energy buses will be employed in the entire fleet by 2050 to make Hong Kong a green city.
