KMB introduces Water Stations in 90 Bus Termini to promote BYOB and plastic-free culture

To encourage the public to bring their bottles, KMB plans to introduce Water Stations in 90 bus termini throughout Hong Kong, facilitating the citizens to refill their containers instead of purchasing bottled water to practice a plastic-free lifestyle. KMB expects that the Water Station could help minimise the environmental and ecological impact caused by plastic waste and thereby contribute to the betterment of our environment.

The Report, "Monitoring of Solid Waste in Hong Kong - Waste Statistics for 2019" by the Environmental Protection Department mentioned that the third largest constituent of municipal solid waste in Hong Kong was plastic waste. It has a disposal quantity of 2,320 tonnes per day, about 20% of total municipal solid waste and equivalent to 155 double-deckers. To promote the "Bring Your Own Bottle" idea, KMB plans to introduce Water Stations in 90 bus termini. Each station provides cold, hot and room-temperature water, making it easier for citizens to purchase clean drinking water. The Water Stations are equipped with a unique hygienic design, featuring a dust barrier door and hidden water tap, reducing the chance of direct contact with the water containers. Currently, there are 20 bus termini equipped with the Water Station. The remaining 70 locations are waiting for the inspection and approval of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.
