KMB’s new-generation electric single-decker pays district visit One more approved route to be deployed with electric bus
The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. (“KMB”) has arranged a new electric single-decker to visit Shau Kei Wan Bus Terminal today (7 May). KMB has introduced the features of the new electric bus and roadmap for upgrading its entire fleet to new energy buses after its service commencement last month. Following its maiden trip on Route 6, the new-generation single-deck electric bus will be deployed on Route 14B [Ngau Tau Kok ⇋ Lam Tin (Kwong Tin Estate)] starting from 14 May 2022. This allows more passengers to experience the benefits of zero-emission and tranquillity.
The new-generation single-deck electric buses embarked on their maiden trip on Route 6 [Lai Chi Kok ⇋ Star Ferry] in late April. The route travels along busy corridors such as Nathan Road, providing a clean and quiet travel experience to the public. KMB has arranged for one of the new electric buses to visit Shau Kei Wan Bus Terminus and allow the public to understand the features of the new buses and KMB’s target to upgrade its fleet to new energy buses by 2050.
KMB staff were at the site to explain the characteristics of the new electric buses and introduced KMB’s timetable and roadmap for the development of new energy buses. Leaflets with the specification of the new buses and souvenirs were given to the public visiting the bus. Some Eastern District Councillors have also come to experience more about the new electric bus.
The new-generation electric single-deckers will also visit different places in the future to introduce the advantages of electric buses and show KMB’s commitment to the development of green transportation and the determination to reduce carbon emissions.
New electric single-deckers to be deployed on Route 14B from next Saturday
Following the deployment on Route 6, the new-generation single-deck electric buses will be deployed on Route 14B [Ngau Tau Kok ⇋ Lam Tin (Kwong Tin Estate)] from 14 May (Saturday) onwards. This route via busy corridors, including Ngau Tau Kok Road and Hip Wo Street, as well as slopes of different inclinations, collected data believed to be beneficial to the development of electric buses. KMB is also discussing with the Transport Department to deploy the new electric buses on more routes so that the public could enjoy a more eco-friendly commuting choice.
Aiming at purchasing 500 electric buses by 2025
KMB has dedicated to promoting green transportation and has already laid down a clear timeline for upgrading its fleet to new energy buses. We expect to have 82 electric buses serving the public by 2023 and purchase 500 more electric buses in 2025. By 2050, the entire fleet will be upgraded to new energy buses.
KMB is actively installing charging facilities in existing depots. We are also planning to build two multi-storey bus depots in Tuen Mun and Tai Po for new energy buses, with completion expected in four to five years, comprising 850 parking spaces.
Passengers may call the KMB Customer Service Hotline on 2745-4466 or visit KMB website www.kmb.hk or App1933 for more details.
