Legislative Council members from the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions visited KMB electric bus
The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited ("KMB") today (7 June) invited Legislative Council members from the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (“HKFTU”) to visit Kowloon Bay Depot. KMB also introduced the new generation of electric buses, its timetable and a roadmap for developing new energy and electric buses.
HKFTU Legislative Council members Hon LUK Chung-hung, JP, Hon KWOK Wai-keung, JP, Hon Dennis LEUNG Tsz-wing, MH, Hon TANG Ka-piu, BBS, JP and Hon Joephy CHAN Wing-yan, learned about the features, safety measures, and charging facilities of KMB’s new generation electric single-deck buses. They also visited the depot facilities, including maintenance equipment, and the staff rest area, to understand KMB's daily operations.
KMB expects to have 82 electric buses serving the public by 2023 and purchase 500 electric buses in 2025, accounting for one-eighth of the whole bus fleet. By 2050, the entire fleet will be upgraded to new energy buses, in line with the Government policy of achieving carbon neutrality.
The number of routes running KMB electric single-deck bus has been increased to six
The new-generation electric buses have been put into service and deployed on Route 1A [Sau Mau Ping Central ⇋ Star Ferry], 6 [Lai Chi Kok ⇋ Star Ferry], 14B [Ngau Tau Kok ⇋ Lam Tin (Kwong Tin Estate)], and 203C [Sham Shui Po (Tai Hang Tung) ⇋ Tsim Sha Tsui East (Mody Road)] since late April. The electric buses have been deployed on Routes 1 [Chuk Yuen Estate ⇋ Star Ferry] and 11D [Lok Fu ⇋ Kwun Tong Ferry], allowing more passengers to enjoy the benefits of zero-emission and serenity brought by electric buses.
