KMB implements the Short-haul Two-way Section Fare Scheme in North District on 14 August
Comprising of 5 routes and 12 one-stop validators
The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited (KMB) announced that the third Regional Short-haul Two-way Section Fare Scheme would be implemented in North District from 14 August. The Scheme is comprised of 5 KMB routes. Passengers can enjoy bus services at the fares of $3.8-5 by tapping an Octopus card or a contactless credit card or mobile device or scanning the QR code on 12 one-stop validators at bus stops after alighting within North District. KMB hopes to expand the Scheme in North District, providing passengers with more transportation choices.
The five bus routes which will implement regional short-haul two-way sectional fares are Routes 261、277E、278X、270A and 270B. Passengers can enjoy an intra-district ride with a single fare of $5 by tapping an Octopus card or a contactless credit card or mobile device or scanning the QR code on 12 Octopus card or one-stop validators at bus stops after alighting. The fare of Route 277E, plying between Sheung Shui Tin Ping Estate and Sheung Shui Station, is just as low as $3.8.
Under the Scheme, even if passengers, who pay with an Octopus card or e-payment system, take the above five long-haul routes, the fare will be $3.8-5 as long as they alight in North District.

KMB’s Regional Short-haul Two-way Section Fare Scheme applies to passengers who pay with an Octopus card or e-payment. Passengers need to pay the full fare when boarding the bus by tapping the Octopus card, contactless credit card or mobile device, or scanning the QR code. After alighting from the bus, and tapping the same Octopus card, contactless credit card or mobile device, or scanning the QR code on the Octopus card or one-stop validator, part of the fare will be automatically returned.
The Short-haul Two-way Section Fare Scheme does not eligible to any other interchange concessions. Passengers who have used their relevant Octopus cards or contactless credit cards for public transport transactions between getting on the buses and using the Octopus card or one-stop validators at the bus stops are not eligible for the scheme.
North District is the third region to adopt the Regional Short-haul Section Fare Scheme after Northern–west New Territories (Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai) and Tseung Kwan O. KMB hopes to expand the Scheme in North District, enabling passengers to enjoy convenient, comfortable and effective bus services. KMB will maintain close communication with the Transport Department to continuously improve the programme.
