KMB implements the Short-haul Two-way Section Fare Scheme in North District on 14 August Comprising of 5 routes and 12 one-stop validators
The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited (KMB) announced that the third Regional Short-haul Two-way Section Fare Scheme would be implemented in North District on 14 August. The Scheme is comprised of five KMB routes. Passengers travelling within North District with those routes can enjoy bus services at the fares of $3.8-5.0 by tapping an Octopus card, a contactless credit card or a mobile device or by scanning the QR code on 12 one-stop validators at designated bus stops. The Scheme provides more convenient transportation choices to passengers.
The five bus routes which will be covered in the Regional Short-haul Two-way Section Fare Scheme are Routes 261、277E、278X、270A and 270B. Passengers, who pay with an Octopus card or e-payment methods, can enjoy an intra-district ride with a single fare of $5.0 by tapping an Octopus card, a contactless credit card or a mobile device or by scanning the QR code on 12 Octopus card or one-stop validators at designated bus stops after alighting. The fare of Route 277E, plying between Sheung Shui Tin Ping Estate and Sheung Shui Station, is just as low as $3.8.
12 Octopus card and one-stop validators are located in Wah Ming Bus Terminus, Yan Shing Court, Fanling Station, Sheung Shui Station, Tin Yee House Tin Ping Estate and Union Plaza Bus Stops, providing a more convenient service to passengers.
North District is the third region to adopt the Regional Short-haul Section Fare Scheme after Northern–west New Territories (Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai) and Tseung Kwan O. Mr Utan Wong, Assistant Operations Director (Division 3) of KMB said, “the implemention of the Scheme in North District provides more transportation choices for passengers to travel around North District. It helps reduce waiting time.”
Mr Ko Wai Kei, Chairman of Traffic and Transport Committee, North District Council, welcomes the North District Short-haul Two-way Section Fare Scheme. He said, “The Scheme, which allows residents to enjoy an intra-district ride with a discount, gives residents more transportation choices. I hope that the Scheme could expand to cover the areas of Sha Tau Kok and Ta Kwu Ling.”
Mr Dennis Lee, Manager of Planning and Development, Operational Planning Department of KMB, said, “KMB will maintain close communication with the Transport Department to improve the Scheme.”

KMB’s Regional Short-haul Two-way Section Fare Scheme applies to passengers who pay with an Octopus card or e-payment. After alighting from the bus, then tapping the same Octopus card, contactless credit card or mobile device, or scanning the QR code on the Octopus card or one-stop validator, part of the fare will be automatically returned.
The Short-haul Two-way Section Fare Scheme does not apply to any other interchange concessions. Passengers who have used their relevant Octopus cards or contactless credit cards for public transport transactions between getting on the buses and using the Octopus card or one-stop validators at the bus stops are not eligible for the Scheme.
