Bus Regeneration Programme: KMB donates a used and retired bus to Cannan Kindergarten (Kowloon Tong)

Students of the Cannan Kindergarten (Kowloon Tong) will be able to learn on a retired bus provided by The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. ( “KMB” ) under the Used and Retired Bus Donation Programme.

Cannan Kindergarten (Kowloon Tong) is a non-profit making kindergarten located in Kowloon Tong. The retired bus will be named as “Sunshine Bus” with a theme of positive education, aiming for a positive environment to cultivate children with a happy, healthy life and good character.

The school will transform the lower deck into a music garden, to enhance children’s listening, thinking, gross and fine motor skills and appreciation abilities, as well as to inspire their musical potential through music eurhythmics and games. The upper deck is planned to be changed into a multiple-learning classroom. With the facility, children can have a chance to develop “character strengths”, “positive thinking” to solve difficulties, dare to face adversity, positive mind and attitude. The classroom can also promote whole-person development through activities, including free exploration, artistic creation, and self-challenge. Also, a reading area will be set up on the upper deck, with sofas and tables, so that "Story Parents" and children can enjoy reading together.

The Principal of Cannan Kindergarten (Kowloon Tong), Ms. Chu Wai, expressed her gratitude to KMB allowing the school to project positive education into the "Sunshine Bus" and cultivate students of Cannan to be positive, optimistic, lively and energetic.

KMB aims to convert retired buses for educational purposes, as a different way of serving Hong Kong, while achieving the objective of recycling resources. These donations also allow the schools to use their creativity to give a new meaning to the old bus. It assists students to chase their dreams in an enhanced learning atmosphere.

Under the Used and Retired Bus Donation Programme, which was rolled out at the end of 2016, retired single-deck and double-deck buses will be donated to schools and non-profit organisations. Applicants are required to submit a proposal detailing how the bus will be deployed, how it will meet the requirements of sustainable development and the educational purposes.
