Three Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel express routes Routes 96, 290E and 298X to put into service on 12 December A new page for traffic in Tseung Kwan O
To tie in with the commencement of Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel and the Tseung Kwan O Cross Bay Link on 11 December, The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. (“KMB”) announces that three express bus routes via Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel will put into service on the next day (12 December, Monday). They are Route 96 [Tseung Kwan O (Hong Sing Garden) ⇋ Tai Po Industrial Estate], Route 290E [Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate ⇋ Tsuen Wan West Station] and Route 298X [Hang Hau (North) (Tseung Kwan O Hospital) ⇋ Cheung Sha Wan (Kom Tsun Street)]. This marks a new page for the traffic in Tseung Kwan O residents. Among them, the all-new Route 96 provides direct bus service for passengers travelling between Tseung Kwan O and Tate’s Cairn Tunnel, Science Park, and Tai Po.
All-new Route 96: 1st choice for commuting to Science Park and Tai Po
The bus route plying between Tseung Kwan O (Hong Sing Garden) and Tai Po Industrial Estate was raised in the Bus Route Planning Programme 2020-2021. KMB has been awarded to operate it after the tendering procedures. The all-new Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel express route Route 96 will be put into service on the first working day after the commencement of the tunnel. It is also the first bus route providing direct service to Science Park and Tai Po. There are two departures for each direction during both AM and PM peak hours, offering the best choice for commuting from Tseung Kwan O to Science Park and Tai Po.
Route 96 departs from Hong Sing Garden and travels directly to the newly commenced Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel and Tate’s Cairn Tunnel for Science Park, Tai Po Central, Tai Wo and Tai Po Industrial Estate after observing Po Lam, Hang Hau and Tseung Kwan O South. The full fare is only $9.5.

Other than Route 96, there are two new Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel express services to be put into service on the same day – Route 290E [Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate ⇋ Tsuen Wan West Station] and Route 298X [Hang Hau (North) (Tseung Kwan O Hospital) ⇋ Cheung Sha Wan (Kom Tsun Street)]. These two routes offer a faster journey for residents in Hang Hau, Pak Shing Kok and LOHAS Park, going to Mong Kok, Sham Shui Po, Wong Tai Sin, Kwai Chung, Tsuen Wan during the peak hours.
