The Security Bureau Youth Uniformed Group Leaders Forum visits KMB to study initiatives on environmental protection and social responsibilities
The Security Bureau Youth Uniformed Group Leaders Forum (“Leaders Forum”) paid a visit to the Kowloon Bay Depot, The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. (“KMB”) today (17 December) to learn about KMB’s initiatives on environmental protection and social responsibilities. KMB Administration Director Steve Hui and his team introduced the new-generation single-deck electric bus and the roadmap for upgrading the entire fleet to new energy buses.
KMB Administration Director Steve Hui welcomed twenty members from the Leaders Forum today. He introduced the new-generation single-deck electric bus and its charging facilities to the representatives, and various depot facilities so as to learn about the daily operations.
This year’s Policy Address suggested establishing the Security Bureau Youth Uniformed Group Leaders Forum to enable outstanding young members from disciplined and auxiliary services departments to tender advice to the Security Bureau on issues relating to enhancing young people’s sense of national identity and national security awareness. Both ecological and resource security are the major fields of national security, and KMB is honoured to meet the future pillars of society from the Leaders Forum and introduce to them how KMB fulfills its civic responsibility in terms of environmental protection.
As a local company serving Hong Kong, KMB fully supports the carbon-neutral policy established by the Nation and Hong Kong. KMB has also set a vision to strive to upgrade the entire fleet to new energy buses in 2040. The first brand-new double-deck 12-metre electric bus ordered was delivered to KMB a few days ago. It is expected that we will have 82 electric buses by next year and further expand it to 500 within three to five years, which makes KMB continues to be the bus company with the largest electric bus fleet in Hong Kong and contributes to both ecological and resource security.
Other than environmental protection, KMB also fulfills its corporate social responsibilities. We advocate inclusiveness in our workplace by actively employing people with disabilities and non-Chinese. KMB also cares for the elderly and has launched the Finding Missing Elderly Programme to help find the missing elderly, especially those suffering from Dementia, through their Octopus card number. KMB has also donated "Caring Bus Stop Pole" to help reduce the risk of elderly missing. In addition, KMB collaborates with Hong Chi Association to provide internship opportunities in retail and catering services for students with special education needs to help them blend into society.
